Two civilians were killed Friday when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off near their motorbike in Afghanistan's Zabul province, some 340 km south of capital city of Kabul, Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
"The incident occurred yesterday at 5:20 p.m. local time in Shamulzay district of Zabul province," the statement said.
However, the statement did not blame any particular group for initiating the blast, saying "The leadership of interior ministry strongly condemns the insurgent's un-Islamic and inhuman action and expresses its deepest condolences to the families of victims,"
Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops based in Afghanistan have been largely relying on roadside bombings and suicide attacks, but the lethal weapons often harm civilians.
Taliban have yet to make comments.
A total of 2,777 civilians have been killed in Taliban-linked militancy and conflicts in Afghanistan in 2010, a UN report released early this month said.
