Russia and the United States are tentatively planning a second Middle East peace conference in Moscow in early 2008, the Washington Post said in a report on Thursday.
Such a conference would include direct talks between Israel and Syria, the report said, citing U.S. and Russian officials.
The United States has been working quietly with Russia on a sequel to the Annapolis conference, the report said, adding that Russia has proposed meetings of experts in Moscow before the next conference to work on obstacles to a comprehensive peace process.
The news came after the Annapolis conference concluded Tuesday in Annapolis, Maryland. Nearly 50 countries and international organizations attended the U.S.-hosted conference.
Russia, a member of the so-called "Quartet," or the United States, the United Nations, Russia and the European Union, has been trying to play a role in promoting the stalled Middle East peace.
