A police barrack and a bank building were hit by two separate explosions here on Wednesday, and fortunately no one was injured in the incidents, police said.

The explosion at the police base left a hole in the barrack's wall and witnesses at the scene said fragmented bomb shells could be found in an area 100 meters around the bomb site.

Nelson Faundez, the base's commander, told the press that the extent of the damage showed the bomb was of high power, and he was concerned about possible such attacks in the future.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, the police said.

A branch of Spanish bank Banco Santander located in northern Santiago was also hit by a bomb attack on the same day.

Police there found pamphlets demanding the freedom of jailed activists from the Mapuche indigenous minority.
