A 12-year-old girl from California survived a plane crash in Panama over the weekend, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.
Francesca Lewis apparently was suffering from hypothermia and multiple traumas, including fractures in her arm. She was the only survivor in the crash.
Two other Californians Michael Klein and his daughter, Talia were killed in the crash.
The small plane, a Cessna 172, lost communication with the control tower shortly before noon Sunday as it traveled from Islas Secas, an archipelago owned by Klein off Panama's Pacific coast.
The bodies of the two California residents and the local pilot of the plane were found Tuesday in rugged mountains after a three-day search, the report quoted local officials as saying.
When Francesca was found alive and conscious, 20 additional workers were dispatched to try to rescue her. She was placed under a makeshift shelter because of the terrain and weather conditions, the paper said.
Rescue workers spent hours late Tuesday trying to get her to a local hospital, working through knee-high mud without the assistance of vehicles or horses, said the report. She was expected to be transported to a local hospital later in the day.
