About 50 people were left homeless and two firefighters injured in a blaze which destroyed half of an apartment complex Wednesday night in Canada's eastern city of Montreal, reports reaching here said Thursday.
The fire started around 10 p.m. local time (0300 GMT Thursday) in an apartment and quickly spread through the walls of the old building on Mount Stephen Street. Half of the 29 apartments were destroyed as the fire burned late into the night, Canadian Television (CTV) said.
About 150 firefighters rushed to the scene. However, low temperature, frozen hoses and poor quality of the building made it very difficult to battle the fire, said Montreal's fire department.
This has been the second major fire in Montreal in the past week. Six families were rendered homeless after a fire ravaged their apartment complex Monday. Source:Xinhua
