Five bodies were found buried in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, authorities said Tuesday.
The decomposing bodies of four men and one woman were found Monday with their hands and feet tied. They were believed to be killed about 10 to 20 days ago, allegedly by a group of drug dealers, the State Attorney General Office said.
One men got a shot in the stomach and the other four were believed to have choked to death, with their heads enveloped in adhesive tape, said a news release of the attorney general, noting all may have been beaten before death.
The authorities are looking for connections to five people reported missing from neighboring Jalisco state on Dec. 18, an official said.
Michoacan, a major drug producing area in Mexico, has been the site for clashes between police forces and drug gangs and the fighting among different drug groups.
According to the Mexico City newspaper Milenio, more than 900 people were killed last year in drug violence in Mexico.
