Mexico's Lower House of Congress approved an unprecedented judicial reform on Tuesday which respects the presumption of innocence and forbids home search without a warrant.
The House approved the bill by a 462-6 vote with two abstentions.
The bill allows information from recorded phone calls to be used as judicial evidence under the agreement of at least one of the conversation's participants.
Public oral trials will also become effective evidence, replacing closed-door proceedings.
The bill will then be submitted to the Senate for approval and by at least 17 of Mexico's 31 states.
