A young gunman fatally shot four people before committing suicide in an apartment building in Bristol, Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Bristol police chief Blaine Wade said the shooting, which took place in the Edgemont Towers apartment complex in Bristol, is thought to be "domestic-violence related."

The gunman and a victim died at the scene while three others were seriously wounded and died in hospital later. The victims have not been identified.

The shooter was identified as 26-year-old Rusty Rumley of Watauga, Tennessee.

Bristol is located on Tennessee's border with Virginia.
