The governments of Mexico, the United States and Canada began on Wednesday a two-day meeting to discuss the border security and environmental advances within the framework of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP).
The meeting is being carried out in Los Cabos, in Mexico's northwestern state of Baja California Sur. Its agenda includes promoting growth, competitiveness and quality of life in North America by reducing trade costs and sharing environmental responsibilities among the three countries.
The basis for the forthcoming North American Leaders' Summit, due to be held in the U.S. city of New Orleans on April 21-22, will be established at the meeting.
Representatives of the three countries will also discuss other issues like food production, management of emergencies and civil protection, among others.
The SPP was launched in March of 2005 as a trilateral effort to increase security and enhance prosperity among the United States, Canada and Mexico through greater cooperation and information sharing.
