The United States welcomed the UN Security Council resolution adopted to tighten sanctions on Iran on Monday and urged Teheran to change its behavior.
The United States is pleased to see the UN Security Council has recognized "the continuing threat" posed by Iran's nuclear program through the new resolution, State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said.
The United Sates hoped the new resolution will make Iran change its behavior, including suspending its uranium enrichment activities, Casey said.
The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Monday slapping stronger sanctions to press Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities.
Fourteen of the 15 members of the Security Council voted for Resolution 1803 but Indonesia abstained.
Washington has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied U.S. charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
