Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez on Monday swore in six new ministers to reshuffle his 13-member cabinet as pronounced on Feb. 11.

The new ministers include Foreign Minister Gonzalo Fernandez replacing Reinaldo Gargano; Defense Minister Jose Bayardi replacing Azucena Berrutti; Livestock Farming, Agriculture and Fishing Minister Ernesto Agazzi replacing Jose Mujica; Housing and Environment Minister Carlos Colacce; Education and Culture Minister Maria Simon; and Energy Minister Daniel Martinez.

Vazquez said the incoming ministers had no strong party affiliation.

The new foreign minister Fernandez, a lawyer and close Vazquez adviser, had previously handled negotiations with Argentina over the two nations' environmental rows.

The seven other ministers -- Economy Minister Danilo Astori, Interior Minister Daysi Torune, Transport Minister Victor Rossi, Public Health Minister Maria Julia Munoz, Labor Minister Eduardo Bonomi, Tourism Minister Hectro Lescano and Social Development Minister Marina Arismendi -- stayed on in the cabinet.
