The United States voiced on Monday its concern over the deadlocked political process in Lebanon, saying that delays in Lebanon's presidential vote are not acceptable.
"We would highly encourage those who are interfering from outside of Lebanon to cease and desist and allow the Lebanese to move forward and elect a president," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. "We are very concerned."
Lebanon has been without a president for over three months. The presidential seat in Lebanon is vacant since Nov. 24, 2006, when former president Emile Lahoud ended his term.
Lebanon's parliament has not elected a new president because of an enduring standoff that pits the Syrian-backed Shiite movement Hezbollah and its Christian allies against a coalition gathered around the government, which is backed by the United Stats, Saudi Arabia and France. Source:Xinhua
