The 14th meeting of the Latin American Integration Association Foreign Ministers' Council approved a statement Tuesday, condemning the U.S. trade blockade of Cuba.

The meeting also approved three other statements to favor Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands (referred to as the Falkland Islands by the British government), to enhance social cohesion in Latin America and to promote the regional integration of Latin America, Uruguayan Foreign Minister Gonzalo Fernandez told a news conference.

Foreign ministers from member states of the Latin American Integration Association gathered here Tuesday to advance free trade in the region.

The Latin American Integration Association, which was founded in 1980 with its headquarters in Montevideo, groups Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay, Peru, Paraguay and Venezuela.
