Cooperation in the area of ethanol and peace in the Middle East will be the principal topics of discussion between Brazil's president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the visiting U.S. State Secretary Condoleezza Rice, Brazil's Foreign Affairs Minister Celso Amorim said on Wednesday.
Rice will arrive in Brasilia Thursday and will meet Lula later in the morning.
"We have a relationship very smooth, and meetings between the two presidents are very often", said Amorim to a session of the Commission of Exterior Relations and National Defense of the Senate.
According to Amorim, Brazil and the United States want to promote their cooperation on biofuels with other countries, in the model of pilot-projects in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
"We want to continue, especially on ethanol, not only the direct cooperation between Brazil and the United States, but also in the sense of a trilateral cooperation," said Amorim.
Peace in the Middle East will also be an affair that concerns the two countries, according to Amorim, who recalled Brazil's participation as a guest to the Peace Conference of Annapolis last November.
"We want to see the process of Annapolis be renovated," he said.
