A small plane crashed in Martin County of Florida on Thursday morning, killing all four people on board, police said.

Three of the dead are from Florida Atlantic University, county police said. The fourth victim was the pilot.

After reports of the crash came in at 9:04 a.m., fire rescue crews rushed to the scene, finding a small Cessna Skyhawk upside down near a stand of trees with four men inside. All were dead.

There was no distress call from the pilot, but no word on whether he was attempting an emergency landing or simply crashed.

"They did not hit any types of trees or any obstacles," said Martin County police spokesman Steve Leighton.

At the time of the crash, the weather was clear and skies were blue.

Two National Transportation and Safety Board investigators are en route to the crash scene to investigate the crash.
