The United States announced on Monday that it contributes 138 million U.S. dollars toward the 2008 operation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
"The 138 million U.S. dollar contribution will support UNHCR efforts to provide protection, assistance, and solutions for refugees and internally displaced persons in or from Sudan, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Somalia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the Northern Caucasus, Serbia, Kosovo, Colombia and elsewhere," the State Department said in a statement.
The United States has announced that it will contribute 95.4 million dollars for UNHCR's Iraq program and another nearly 10 million dollars to support the organization's refugee resettlement effort, the statement said.
With all the contributions, the United States contributes over 240 million dollars to the UNHCR for 2008, the statement added.
