U.S. President George W. Bush said Wednesday he supports Georgia's bid to join NATO at the military alliance's summit meeting early next month.

"I believe that NATO benefits with a Georgia membership, I believe that Georgia benefits from being a part of NATO and I told the president that's the message I'd be taking to Bucharest soon," Bush said after meeting his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili in the White House.

The United States has voiced support for Georgia's NATO membership, but said this will be decided by all members of the organization.

"In terms of what NATO decisions will be taken, obviously that's something that's not determined by the United States but by all of the members of NATO," State Department deputy spokesman Tom Casey said earlier this week.

NATO will hold a summit meeting next month in Romanian capital Bucharest and Georgia hopes to join the military alliance at the summit.
