Mexico's October-March cold season has killed 52 people, the country's Health Ministry said Sunday.

Among the victims, 28 people died of carbon monoxide poisoning because of faulty heating and 22 were killed by hypothermia, the ministry said.

The two worst hit states were Chihuahua and Sonora in the north.

Mexico is currently suffering a severe cold season, which has resulted from cloud and strong winds in the Gulf of Mexico and southeastern Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.
