At least 212 people were killed and some 1,235 people injured in a total of 976 accidents during the Easter holiday in Mexico, the country's Public Security Ministry reported Monday.
Both numbers of casualties and accidents are lower than the same period last year, the ministry said.
It said many tourists remain on vacation although the official holidays are now over, so the number might rise.
The ministry launched an operation with 7,850 officers, 3,700 patrol cars and five helicopters to try and reduce road accidents during the holiday period.
Accidents during the Easter vacation have also claimed the lives of 46 people in El Salvador and 76 in Guatemala so far.
