The Chilean government declared Thursday a state of agricultural emergency in 14 more regions, due to the long drought affecting the country.
This measure, which brought to 209 the total number of regions, will benefit communities located in the central northern and central southern Chile, specifically in the Atacama and Biobio regions.
Some 1.27 million U.S. dollars will be destined to the Biobio region and some 340,000 dollars will be destined to Atacama, Chile's Agriculture Minister Marigen Hornkohl said.
The money will be invested in fodder, concentrated foods and sanitary measures for the cattle, as well as technical aid to face the climate crisis.
Rainfalls in Chile have not been strong and far from their normal averages until March 2008. Water levels in some affected areas have reported historic lows, bringing losses to cattle rangers and small agricultural producers. Source:Xinhua
