Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Tuesday slammed the Ecuadorian government for suing his country in The Hague court over herbicide spraying on border areas.

"I am surprised that there is so much belligerence by Ecuador against the Colombian state and so much silence on terrorism," Uribe told reporters in Colombian capital of Bogota.

Ecuador began suing Colombia Monday at the International Court of Justice, demanding an end to the spraying, which is alleged to have affected the health of Ecuadorians as well as their animals and crops.

Uribe said disagreement between governments should not be allowed to damage historical brotherhood of the peoples of the two nations.

Ecuador has broken off diplomatic relations with Colombia as Colombia raided a camp of Colombia's largest rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the Ecuadorian territory.

Ecuador said Colombia violates its sovereignty while Colombia has accused Ecuador of having links with FARC in light of files which it said were found in computers seized in the raid.
