Ecuador's defense minister has submitted his resignation, according to local media reports on Wednesday.
The resignation of Wellington Sandoval has been confirmed by Deputy Defense Minister Miguel Carvajal, said the reports.
He said that new Defense Minister Javier Ponce will probably be sworn-in later Wednesday.
There are no comments yet on why Sandoval has resigned, but he has faced criticism recently over his lack of leadership within the armed forces.
Ecuador's President Rafael Correa last week accused the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of controlling many of his country's spy agencies and passing information to Colombia.
The president has fired a top intelligence officer and plans to overhaul spy agencies for belatedly informing him about links between Colombian rebels and an Ecuadorian who died in Colombia's raid on a rebel camp inside Ecuador last month. Source:Xinhua
