Ecuador's Defense Ministry said on Monday in a communique that Ecuador's army has destroyed 15 abandoned clandestine bases belonging to alleged Colombian rebels in the northern region bordering Colombia.

The Ecuadorian army operation was carried out in early April and the troops also discovered an illicit drug-processing lab, a laptop computer and four audio cassettes.

The army found and destroyed a clandestine illicit drug lab in the Opuno river sector, north of Lago Agrio, in Sucumbios province, and the troops also found other bases and labs allegedly belonging to Colombian armed groups.

These discoveries were carried out during the "Sovereignty IV" operation on April 5-10 in the sectors of Santa Elena, Opuno river, Flecha Verde pre cooperative and Palmar. White gasoline was also confiscated at this last site.

The clandestine bases were found on the boundaries of the OpunoRiver, including an abandoned lab, six hand grenades, 80 gallons of fuel, and substances for making chemical explosives among other clandestine military items.
