The Ecuadorian government Monday firmly denied it acquiesced in the activities of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on its soil, demanding Colombia clarify its accusation against Ecuador.
The Colombian government said in a recent statement that Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa ordered the Ecuadorian military to avoid attacking FARC on its land.
Ecuador's new Defense Minister Javier Ponce said the accusation by the Colombian government was a downright lie aimed to cause conflicts between the Ecuadorian government and the military. He asked Colombia to clarify its accusation within 48 hours.
On April 4, Correa said the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency had partly manipulated Ecuador's intelligence department, and provided intelligence to Colombia in a recent Ecuador-Colombia border crisis.
Ecuadorian Defense Minister Wellington Sandoval resigned over the scandal on April 9 and President Correa also sacked some other senior military officers.
The Colombian military unilaterally launched a cross-border attack against a FARC camp in Ecuador. Ecuador severed its ties with Colombia two days later in protest of Colombia's move. Source:Xinhua
