President George W. Bush called UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday and the two leaders discussed the political situation in Zimbabwe, U.S. National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.
"The situation in Zimbabwe needs to be resolved peacefully and soon. It's gone on for too long," Johndroe said, referring to Zimbabwe's disputed presidential election which took place at the end of last month.
The two leaders also discussed Afghanistan, Kosovo, Zimbabwe and Darfur, Johndroe said.
Bush hosted the UN chief in the White House in February and the two leaders have enjoyed a warm relationship.
Ban visited the White House in 2006 for the first time after he was elected UN's secretary-general.
