The United States has increased humanitarian assistance for refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Iraq from 43 million dollars last year to a total of 208 million dollars so far this year, the State Department said in a statement Wednesday.
The United States announced in February a contribution of 125 million dollars to international organizations to provide humanitarian assistance, including education and health services, and protection to Iraqis both within and outside of Iraq, the statement said.
Since 2003, the United States has been the single largest contributor of humanitarian assistance for refugees and Iraqi IDPs, providing more than 500 million dollars to date, the statement said.
The United States launched the Iraq war in 2003 and toppled the Saddam Hussein regime.
