Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Thursday appointed Monica Jimenez as new education minister one day after the Senate dismissed her predecessor for administrative disorders.
"Like in all previous posts, I will give all, and I will serve with all my soul, all my heart and I do it because I really believe in this mission," said Jimenez.
Jimenez, principal of Temuco Catholic University, is an educationalist and a member of the centrist Christian Democrat Party.
The appointment came one day after Chile's Senate sacked Yasna Provoste and banned her from holding public posts for the next five years.
The Senate voted 20-18 in support of a constitutional accusation presented by the opposition, dismissing Provoste for administrative disorder. Source:Xinhua
