The Bush administration has appointed Robert Danin, deputy assistant secretary of state, to run the office of Middle East peace envoy ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair, local press reported Tuesday.
Danin "will be head of mission for the office of the Quartet representative," an unidentified senior U.S. government official was quoted as saying.
Danin is currently in charge of affairs relating to Israel and Palestinian territories, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt in the State Department's bureau of Near Eastern affairs.
Danin's appointment was made ahead of a ministerial meeting of the Quartet on May 2 in London.
Blair was appointed after his resignation as prime minister in June 2007 as envoy to the Middle East for the diplomatic grouping known as the Quartet -- the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia. Source:Xinhua
