Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has called on the international community, especially the South and Central American nations, to show their support for the Bolivian government headed by Evo Morales.
Speaking in a ceremony at the presidential palace here, Chavez said the current crisis in Bolivia is similar to that suffered by his government six years ago, when a failed coup d'etat briefly removed him from power.
"It is the same struggle we have in Venezuela, the same story," said Chavez, referring to the upcoming May 4 referendum in Santa Cruz, when inhabitants of the region will decide whether they want to split from Bolivia.
Chavez blamed the U.S. government for the crisis in Bolivia and accused the U.S ambassador there of operating a plan to destabilize the Bolivian government.
He warned that the plan, if successful, would affect South American countries, especially Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
"To hit Bolivia is to hit South America's geopolitical heart", said Chavez, adding that behind the mask of autonomy, there was a separatist plan to create a new state that "we would never recognize". Source:Xinhua
