The Ecuadorian Navy school vessel Guayas Monday began its 25th international instruction cruise called "Asia 2008" to the United States, South Korea and China.
This will be the first time the Ecuadorian training ship has visited Asian ports.
For the following eight months, the crew will sail 23,000 nautical miles, visiting ports in Panama, Mexico, the United States, Japan, Russia, South Korea and China.
A ceremony for the journey was staged at the Yacht Club in Guayaquil, the most populated city in Ecuador, 240 km southeast of the capital city Quito.
Vessel Commandant Freddy Garcia Calle said he is traveling with14 officers, 93 crew members and 32 cadets.
Three invited officials from the Army, Air Force and National Police and five Army officials from Argentina, Canada, Mexico and Venezuela will also join in the journey.
The vessel is estimated to return on Dec. 11.
