U.S. President George W. Bush will address the nation on economic situation Tuesday, the White House said.

He will make an eight-minute speech on the topic at the start of a news conference beginning 10:30 a.m. ET (1430 GMT) in the Rose Garden of the White House.

That will be followed by a Q&A session.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Bush will "call upon Congress to send him sensible and effective bills that will help Americans weather this difficult period and keep our country moving forward."
