U.S. President George W. Bush said Tuesday he is still hopeful that there will be a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians before his term ends in January 2009.

"I'm still hopeful we'll get an agreement by the end of my presidency," Bush said at a press conference held at the White House.

The White House announced Monday that Bush would visit Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia from May 13-18 in a new effort to push forward the Middle East peace process.

Bush met with Abbas on April 24 to discuss the Middle East peace process, but failed to make any breakthrough.

The United States has tried to push forward the Middle East peace process by hosing an international conference on the Middle East peace in Annapolis, Maryland last year. However, the Middle East peace has made little progress since then.
