Colombian Vice Foreign Minister Camilo Reyes and her Ecuadorian counterpart Jose Valenciamet in the Panamanian capital Tuesday in an effort to mend their rift.
Victor Rico, personal representative for Jose Miguel Insulza, secretary-general of the Organization of American States (OAS), also attended the meeting.
"The talks were focused on measures to improve cooperation, accomplish a better evaluation of the accords being reached and increase the security in the context of the bilateral relations," said Rico.
Rico said the meeting was held "in an ambit of great cordiality, within a positive and constructive framework."
This is the first high-level meeting between the two countries since Ecuador broke diplomatic relations with Colombia on March 3, two days after the Colombian army launched a cross-border attack against a Colombian rebel base.
According to a statement issued by the OAS, the two sides exchanged opinions on how to reactivate bilateral mechanisms and create new channels for the normalization of ties between the two South American countries.
Rico said they agreed to hold another meeting, whose date and location will be set in the following days.
