Two people were stabbed to death Wednesday, including a passerby, during a domestic dispute that happened in a shopping mall in Canada's eastern Ontario province, police said.

The passerby went up to intervene when a man began to stab a woman in a plaza in a residential area in the city of Brampton. The man then turned the knife on the passerby before stabbing himself for a number of times, leading to the death of the passerby and the woman.

The suspect was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is investigating the case.
