The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said Friday that it has provided 4 million U.S. dollars to Nicaragua to help rebuild zones affected in 2007 by hurricane "Felix".

The sum has been used for bean production and fishing rehabilitation in northern Caribbean zone, said Laura De Clementi, FAO's representative in Nicaragua.

"Felix" hurricane hit severely the Autonomous Region of the North Atlantic (RAAN) in Nicaragua on Sept. 4, 2007, destroying corps and wrecking boats.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has negotiated an international assistance of almost 400 million dollars for reconstruction from the disaster in RAAN.

FAO has reconstructed fishers' tools and is seeking to convert into wood the fallen trees during the storm in RAAN, De Clementi told Radio Nicaragua.

"Currently we are arranging a funding of 700,000 dollars to create firebreaks and brigades organization to prevent fire propagation during the summer time in RAAN," said De Clementi.
