Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, together with members of the country's Security Council, on Friday analyzed the recent Colombia-Ecuador diplomatic crisis, which was triggered by a unilateral cross-border attack by Colombian troops.

A meeting, which was attended by Correa and ministers of defense Javier Ponce, of foreign relations Maria Isabel Salvador, of internal and external security Gustavo Larrea and of interior Fernando Bustamante, began at around 08:30 local time (1330 GMT).

The participants discussed the Colombia-Ecuador crisis, which occurred after the Colombian military attacked a camp of Colombia's Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) in Ecuador on March 1and killed 26 rebels including a senior FARC leader.

Two days after the attack, Ecuador severed diplomatic ties with Colombia. The ties have yet to be restored.

Correa once again denounced that Ecuador's military intelligence system was totally infiltrated by foreign agencies during and after Colombia's cross-border attack.

That's why much of Ecuador's information about Colombia's military incursion did not help defend Ecuador's national interests, he added.

Ecuador's defense minister Wellington Sandoval resigned over the infiltration scandal in early April.

The president and the ministers also discussed the issue of a lawmaker Maria Augusta Calle, who was accused of keeping in touch with FARC.
