Some 480 Palestinian security forces led by President Mahmoud Abbas are heading to the northern West Bank town of Jenin to deploy there as part of the government's security plan, Israeli ynetnews website reported on Saturday.

It is an important day for the town and there is "no chance for troublemakers to return to Jenin," the report quoted their commander Suleiman Amran as saying.

The campaign will cover 50 villages and is supposed to last three months, said a senior Palestinian official.

Earlier this year, Palestinian forces deployed in the city of Nablus.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is due to arrive in the region on Saturday as a fresh effort to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
