Some voting centers for the autonomous consultation in Bolivia's eastern Santa Cruz region began to close on Sunday after operating eight hours, according to news reaching here from La Paz, Bolivia's administrative capital.
Santa Cruz's voting centers had opened at 8:00 a.m. local time (1200 GMT), although Santa Cruz's Electoral Court (CDE) had granted a two-hour-plus margin due to possible problems to open or in case massive voting, therefore voting booths' closing time may vary.
The first voting document of the referendum was received by the CDE from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Santa Cruz department's capital.
Over 930,000 voters from Santa Cruz were called to participate in the Autonomous Statute referendum, rejected by the government of Bolivian President Evo Morales, since it is considered as illegal and separatist.
Polls carried out prior to the referendum revealed that 70 percent of the voters would vote in favor of the Autonomous Statute.
CDE's president Mario Parada announced that he would offer a report about the consultations development at about 7:30 p.m. local time (2330 GMT), where it is expected that he will give a preliminary report of the results. Source:Xinhua
