Seventeen people were drowned when a boat sunk in the Solimoes River in Brazil's northern Amazonas state on Sunday, officials said Monday.
All 17 bodies have been recovered, of which three remain unclaimed.
The cause of the accident was probably overloading, as the boat was carrying at least 80 people returning from a party. Some passengers managed to swim to the river bank.
The Brazilian navy said the boat was not registered with the local port authorities, and was seized on Jan. 19 for not having necessary documents and sailing without qualified crew members.
