Barack Obama has a solid lead over Hillary Clinton in North Carolina, but trails her by six percent in Indiana, show polls conducted ahead of the two key Democratic primaries slated for Tuesday.
A Zogby International poll of 624 likely North Carolina Democratic primary voters taken May 3-4 shows Illinois Senator Obama leading Clinton by 48 to 40 percent.
Obama also picked up the endorsement of the Charlotte Observer, a North Carolina newspaper, which said nominating Obama "would send a powerful message to the world."
Meanwhile, a Suffolk University poll of 600 likely Indiana Democratic primary voters shows New York Senator Clinton leading Obama 49 to 43 percent in Indiana.
