The Colombian government extradited on Wednesday former paramilitary chief Carlos Jimenez alias "Macaco" to the United States, where he is accused of illicit drug trafficking, money laundering and financing terrorism.
"Macaco" was transferred to Washington early Wednesday, after the Colombian Supreme Court revoked on Tuesday a decision by a court in Bogota impeding the extradition of the former chief of Colombia's Self-defense (AUC).
"The government, when notified of the verdict impeding 'Macaco's' extradition, proceeded, in coordination with the United States Embassy, to interpose petitions to allow his extradition," stated Colombia's Presidency on Wednesday in a communique.
Radio Caracol network reported that Jimenez was transferred to Miami in an airplane belonging to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, and from there to Washington, where he will be booked.
