The UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) said Thursday that they have discovered networks linked to child pornography in Colombia.
Paul Martin, UNICEF representative in Colombia, told reporters that the networks were found in the northern Atlantic Coast and central Colombian municipalities, including Melgar and Villavicencio.
"There are hotels that work in this with cab drivers and this is a national problem we must stop, with the aid of public awareness," said Martin.
He called on the government and people of Colombia to take effective measures to stop the violation of children.
"The children said they receive between 200 and 3,000 pesos (about 12 cents to 1.7 U.S. dollars) for letting someone touch their bodies," said Luz Cardenas from Renacer Foundation.
Colombia's Communications Minister Maria Guerra said the government has launched a plan to fight "against youth and child pornography" and "the use of public resources for pornographic activities."
