Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Wednesday he will try to contact with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) to secure hostages' release.
Chavez told French President Nicolas Sarkozy on phone and offered "to try to make contact" with the FARC.
During a meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates, Chavez also said he will not only "continue doing the impossible to win freedom for Ingrid Betancourt - who was kidnapped on Feb. 23, 2002 -- but for all the hostages that are in Colombian jungles."
Colombian government has said documents found in the computer of Raul Reyes, the No.2 leader of FARC, showed close links between Chavez and FARC. Chavez has denied the charges, saying "We're trying to combat terrorism."
