Paraguayan President-elect Fernando Lugo said here on Friday that his government will seek relations with China.

Lugo expressed the will in an interview by Xinhua the International Press Center in Lima. He is in the Peruvian capital to attend the fifth Latin American, Caribbean and European Union summit in the company of outgoing President Nicanor Duarte.

Lugo said his new administration "will seek relations with China because we are the only country of South America that has relations with (China's) Taiwan."

Born on May 30, 1949, Lugo won the Paraguayan presidential race on April 20 as candidate for the Patriotic Alliance for Change, ending the Colorado party's 60-year rule. His government is set to be sworn in on Aug. 15.
