Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has selected a veteran reporter in Washington as his spokeswoman and strategist, Fox News said Thursday.

The appointment of Linda Douglass was seen as a smart move for the Obama campaign that has few women in visible roles.

Douglass, most recently working as a contributing editor for the National Journal magazine, has been covering the presidential campaign and writing favorable stories about Obama.

She resigned from the magazine Wednesday.

Linda had worked for ABC, CBS and NBC and covered U.S. politics extensively.
