The 12th Sao Paulo Gay Pride Parade is expected to gather 3.5 million people from all parts of the world on Sunday, the event's organizers said Thursday.

The parade will be held on the main avenue of the city in southern Brazil. According to the organizing committee, 22 trucks equipped with high-power sound systems will be used in the event, whose motto this year is "Homophobia Kills! For A Real Lay State."

The parade also concerns the creation of legislation favoring the rights of homosexual citizens, such as the criminalization of homophobia, which has been facing opposition from congressmen who represent religious groups in the country.

Organizers have prepared leaflets with tips for those willing to participate in the gay pride parade.

The Parade of Pride of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transgenders of Sao Paulo has been organized since 1999, with the aims of bringing visibility to social-sexual categories and fomenting the creation of public policies for homosexuals, bisexuals, transvestites and transsexuals. It's one of the biggest events of its kind in the world.
