The United States and Turkey have reached an agreement to have cooperation on civilian nuclear technology, a senior official of the State Department said on Monday.
The two countries concluded a deal that would allow them to exchange nuclear technology, material and reactor equipment, the Associated Press quoted State Department spokesman Sean McCormack as reporting.
The deal would also promote nuclear energy development and enhance security, the spokesman noted.
The agreement will be submitted to the U.S. Congress for approval.
Turkey, one of major U.S. allies in the Middle East, has vowed to develop nuclear energy. It reportedly plans to create three nuclear power plants of 5,000 MW by 2020.
