U.S. senator Barack Obama effectively became the first African-American to be a major party's presidential nominee as the Democrat Party wrapped up this year's nomination primaries Tuesday.

He has passed the threshold of 2,118 delegates needed to secure the nomination, after six months of fierce competition with senator Hillary Clinton.

The following is a list of states each of them has won in U.S. states, Washington D.C., U.S. territories and overseas Americans in order of the date.

Obama:

Iowa, South Carolina, Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Utah, Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington, Maine, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Vermont, U.S. Virgin Islands, Democrats Abroad, Wyoming, Mississippi, Guam, North Carolina, Oregon and Montana.  

Clinton:

New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, Florida, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas, American Samoa, Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Peurto Rico and South Dakota.
