At least 11 people were slain in the Los Angeles County during the weekend and many of the slayings were gang-related, police said on Monday.
Of the slayings, nine took place in the city of Los Angeles, according to police.
The number of killings is not unprecedented, but it is greater than the county's homicide rate, which is between two and three a day, police said.
Many of the names of the dead were not available from the coroner's office. Only one person has been arrested.
In the latest shooting which occurred about 1:40 p.m. Sunday in Panorama City near downtown Los Angeles, a man on a bicycle asked two men where they were from, then shot them. The victims were taken to a hospital, where one died and the other was in stable condition.
On Saturday night, four gang members started a fight at a bar in downtown Los Angeles, leading to one person shot dead and another with gunshot wounds.
Most of other slayings were drive-by shootings, demonstrating the seriousness of violence crimes in the city, police said.
