The Colombian government on Monday extradited to the United States Eugenio Montoya, a high-ranking member of a major Colombian drug trafficking cartel, the National Police said.
Montoya, alias "Don Hugo," is allegedly responsible for managing assets and money laundering of the North Valley cartel.
Montoya was flown to California on Monday after being handed over by the Colombian police to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), a general of the National Police said.
Montoya is the brother of Diego Leon Montoya, alias "Don Diego," who is in prison and allegedly responsible for 70 percent of the cocaine smuggled into the United States.
"Don Hugo" was captured on Jan. 15, 2007, by Colombian special forces. The U.S. government had offered a 5-million-dollar reward for his arrest.
